Between the two of them, Alex Guarnaschelli, the celebrity chef, and Maria Guarnaschelli, her editor mother, own thousands of cookbooks. During their Prince Street interview this month, they cited dozens: their favorites for the month of December and beyond, some of which Maria, a legend in her field, edited herself (and few she regretted not taking on). For the sake of our own culinary education—and yours—we've listed every book they talked about in the time span of an hour. We've hyperlinked them, too, right to Amazon, should you suddenly need to know how to make Christmas cookies from 25 different countries or Joël Robuchon’s salt-flour-and-thyme encrusted leg of lamb.

December's Editor's Letter

I'm constantly interested in the idea of rituals, especially around the holidays. I've always had a lot of questions about the ways people cook things, and why.
